LibraryThing

This is an interesting site. I like how it is uses amazon to find all of the books you search. I have to admit I never read. I have never enjoyed reading. I will probably never use this site, but it is very functional. You can tag your favorite books and use this site similar to flickr and other sites we have been introduced to. If I was a reader this site would be very informative and helpful to find new books that I would enjoy.

Online image generators

I played around with a bunch of the suggested sites and had a lot of fun with all of them. The one I chose to post about was the B-Movie superhero name generator. I entered my name in and my superhero name came back as "chief fistcrunch". That was funny to me. There was a lot of amusing generators that you could spend hours with.

podcasts

I used podcast alley to find a podcast. I ended up subscribing to better golf with fitness. There are a lot of interesting podcats on these sites. It would be interesting to see how many of these are informative and useful. As the video showed us, just about anyone can make a podcast. It is very easy to search for for a variety of topics or interests. I look forward to listening to some of these podcats and searching for new ones.

Youtube

I have been on youtube many times. I think the site is great. I can watch stand up comedy acts, highlightes of sporting events, and funny or interesting videos that peole have uploaded. The thing I like the best is that this site is free and fast. You can fast forward or rewind a video with little or no waiting. As you mentioned, this site does have a lot of useless videos. I tried to search for a couple of coaching drills or plays. This site has everything you could think of. Just like the internet though, you have to search for the good stuff. There are many videos that could be beneficial to students. Exercising, or "how to" videos are all over.

technorati

This site has a lot of information on it. It has many tabs to keep things organzied and easy to access. I noticed that some of the photos didn't look like they had much to do with kinesiology, but you never know how some people will tag things. The videos look very informative. Technorati seems like another site that could be great for research purposes. No matter what your interests are, this site has it. You can tag authors, and sites to help keep you informed and updated. You can check out the top 100 blogs, and place your blog mainstream. This was an interesting site with a lot of inormation.

del.icio.us

Although I did not sign up for an account, I think this site would be great for teacher to use. I spent some time looking at tags named health and exercise. There were a lot of sites that had fitness ideas or routines. There was even a site that had a program named cron-o-meter that helped track your caloric intake. Teachers who use this could find a lot of lessons and share many ideas with one another. You can find a bunch of different topics and interests on this site as well. Whatever your hobby, it is probably on del.icio.us. This site also allows you to keep all of your sites bookmarked, and allows access on any computer. This site would also be helpful for any research purposes.

Technology in my Career

I am thinking about using blogger to have students keep track of their progress during the year. I will be able to monitor that progress, along with feelings towards lessons, and any accomplishments or set backs. This will be a great way for me to assess my teaching and individual student outcomes. My students are too young for me to contact on facebook. I know my students have accounts, but I do not feel comfortable doing this. Facebook is a great way to stay in contact with other professionals and co workers. I beleive if I taught at the high school I could use more of the technology that we have learned. Google docs is a great way to stay organized and allows easy access to your work anywhere. The rss feeds could help keep me up to date with the newest information in my profession and other professional sites. This is quick and easy to use. I am very pleased with the amount I have learned in these three weeks, and how useful most of the informaton will be to me.

web 2.0 awards list(zillow)

Zillow.com is a real estate web site. I was able to enter my address and zillow provided me with a map of the surrounding area and local house prices. It knew my square footage and how many bedrooms and bathrooms. I was not happy with the estimated price, as it was a little lower than I paid for my home. Our economy is terrible! This site was very interesting and allowed me to see what other homes in the neigborhood are going for.

Google Docs

This is another great site to know about to keep all of your documents online and accessible. You can be on any computer and have documents, spreadsheets, or presentations available to you. As we saw with the flickr movie, photos could get damaged in a fire or other accidents. This would keep your material safe forever.

Bloglines

This is a great way to get information fast. I am constantly going to websites of my favorite sports teams to keep track of what's going on. Now all the information can come to me. The links are all set up, and easy to find. I can even keep track of clasmates' blog ideas. It's amazing how much there is still to learn about technology.

Web, Library, and Teen Services 2.0

This is the third article I chose to write about for the class. It is interesting to see how libraries are gearing their improvements towards teenagers. This is the demographic that is highly skilled with computers and is getting their information elsewhere. This seems to be a smart move to upgrade their services and re-attract a new age group. The new ways of experiencing a library on the internet seem very useful and innovative.

Technology Article #2

The second article that I chose to read was "Examining Social Software in teacher Education" by Richard E. Ferdig. My opinion on these social software sites is starting to change. My opinion used to be that these sites were for college kids to post their "drunk" photos and to write useless text messages. I have heard of of teachers getting into trouble for having questionable photos on the site. What I took from the article is that their is a better way to use these sites. Colleagues can discuss learned material, or recieve help on upcoming assignments. There are learning tools that are waiting to be used and shared. As the article suggest, there is a productive way to use these sights, it's up to teacher education programs to and teachers to discover it's benefits.

Technology Article #1

The first article I read was "Emerging Technologies Changing Public Library Service Delivery Methods" by Mary Ann Kajewski. This article was very informing. Although it provided examples of how new technology could help libraries and thier staff, it made me think of ways to incorporate the ideas into my P.E. program. For example, blogging is very popular and some students might enjoy discussing thought on lessons, or units. Students could keep track of their progress similiar to a journal. This would benefit not only the student, but the teacher as well. Podcasts and vodcasts could be unsed to incorporate technology into the program. Directions, or demonstrations could be taped and shown to the class. Some students would benefit from seeing themselves or thier peers on video. Teachers and coaches could also use this new technology to share ideas, lessons, drills or routines. The best thing about the technology is that it seems simple to use or incorporate, and it is very quick.

Microblogging

Tonight was my first experience with microblogging. People must spend a lot of time on the computer to want to know what someone is doing every hour of the day. This could be useful, however, to co-workers or friends. I don't think I would ever use it.

The Orange Bowl

This is a great picture taken by "given2flym".

I found this picture interesting because I was at this game on November 10th, 2007. This was the last game The University of Miami would play in the Orange Bowl. I am a huge Miami Hurricanes fan, and had never been to the Orange Bowl. I decided that I needed to go to atleast one before they demolished it. What;s also interesting to me is that I took the exact same photo when I was leaving the game. By the way, the Hurricanes choked and lost 48-0.

This was a few days before Hurricane Dean hit. We stayed in Playa del Carmen for one week. We had to spend one night in a shelter, which was on sight at the hotel. Other than the one night it was a great time. You can see how rough the water is.

Online Master's Degree

On Monday I started my Master's Degree at Fresno Pacific University. There is a lot to get used to but I will get the hang of it. We use this learning tool called Blackboard which allows us to submit materials and have discussions with students all over the country. I am on my way to completing week one's assignments.
