Technology Article #1

The first article I read was "Emerging Technologies Changing Public Library Service Delivery Methods" by Mary Ann Kajewski. This article was very informing. Although it provided examples of how new technology could help libraries and thier staff, it made me think of ways to incorporate the ideas into my P.E. program. For example, blogging is very popular and some students might enjoy discussing thought on lessons, or units. Students could keep track of their progress similiar to a journal. This would benefit not only the student, but the teacher as well. Podcasts and vodcasts could be unsed to incorporate technology into the program. Directions, or demonstrations could be taped and shown to the class. Some students would benefit from seeing themselves or thier peers on video. Teachers and coaches could also use this new technology to share ideas, lessons, drills or routines. The best thing about the technology is that it seems simple to use or incorporate, and it is very quick.

We did some video taping this past year to demonstrate correct mechanics in a basketball shot and lay-up. We used them to have the kids analyze and point out what was being done right or wrong. In the next unit, they asked if we were going to do it again - they really liked it. It did take us a while to edit the video, but it was worth the effort.nqknlbed

I agree that being able to use video to analyze any movement would be useful to students and then being able blog about their thoughts and the feedback that you and the class gave them about their movement would be great. In addition, with many of the EL students that I have, modeling movement is important and to show clips of athletes or other peers performing the movement would help to convey the correct actions that we would like the student to take. Even though we may not be able to communicate to the EL student in a language they understand. I know they can understand movies and pictures and glean information that we are teaching them for those resources.
